Transforming your space for Autumn/Winter 2019

Posted on the 17/10/2019 by Karndean Designflooring

With the Autumn/Winter season in full swing, it’s time to turn our attention to home interiors and make our preparations ahead of the colder days and festive season (yes, we don’t want to admit it either, but it’s certainly on its way). Now’s the time to think about grabbing a hot drink, putting your feet up and getting cosy, so it’s important that your space helps make this a reality.

There are many ways in which you can transform your space and luckily for you, we’re here to help you get started and make subtle changes in your home.

Natural shades

When we think of this time of year, our minds automatically go to warm shades of red, orange and yellow. However, did you know that green is becoming a very popular interior decor choice due to it reflecting contentment and nature? Meaning you and your home are likely to feel warmer. Yes, we learn something new every day.

This comes as no surprise to us due to Dulux’s recent announcement of the 2020 colour of the year, Tranquil Dawn, a green shade which hopes to create more opportunities to experience ‘A Human Touch’ in our lives and in our homes.

Earthy tones

If you’re looking for a more traditional colourway; shades from earthy terracotta, ochre and caramel, all the way up to red and burnt orange turn up the heat when it comes to creating a warm and cosy ambiance.

Textures and patterns

Textures also play a huge part in creating the perfect space for the Autumn/Winter season, and we suggest you look towards velvets, wood effect flooring and geometrics.

As well as being well-loved and stylish, velvet is a great fabric for keeping you warm as the tiny fibres that make it feel soft trap a layer of insulating air around them, while geometrics add a bold statement and character to your space.

Wood-effect flooring

Incorporating a wood effect floor will instantly help your space feel warmer, even if you decide to opt for a cooler tone as the knots and grains create a relaxing atmosphere. What’s more, cooler grey tones allow you to tap into the trend for Hygge or Lagom.

If your preference is a rich and deep hue, we recommend Morning Oak, Dover, Heritage Oak or alternatively, a more neutral palette to consider would be Warm Ash, Apex or Storm Oak. It’s important your floor also provides extra comfort. As well as being warm underfoot, our luxury vinyl flooring is compatible with underfloor heating for an extra touch of comfort.

You can incorporate geometrics in all areas of your space such as, wallpaper, blankets, cushions and prints. Why not opt for geometrics underfoot with our Kaleidoscope and Heritage collection? It doesn’t matter if you’re a maximalist or a minimalist at heart, geometrics can be as subtle or as bold as you like, and the good news is your space will still look unique.

Finally, we look at layering, another great way to get cosy when cuddling up with a good book or enjoying a festive film. Whether you decide to layer up on throws and cushions in your living room or blankets and pillows in your bedroom, we’re sure you’ll look forward to coming home after a long, hard day at work, hot beverage in hand and snuggling up to your blanket, surrounded by pillows. Comfort at its finest.
