Extra-large tiles create a streamlined concrete look

Posted on the 01/03/2023 by Karndean Designflooring

Concrete flooring is a timeless style that provides a modern backdrop and industrial finish in any commercial space. As a practical and neutral grey foundation to either the clean lines of a fresh white minimalist interior or the calming earthy tones of a biophilic scheme, a concrete design floor can effortlessly create a mix of formal and informal spaces.

While installing a real concrete floor can be time consuming, expensive and often limited to the ground floor, with Karndean LooseLay you can get the look of concrete and all the additional practical benefits of LVT in an easy-fit format with less environmental impact.

Featuring a K-Wave friction grip backing that creates a strong bond to the subfloor with a combination of weight and friction, Karndean LooseLay requires only tackifier in high traffic areas and at thresholds. As well as being water based, tackifier offers twice as much coverage than standard adhesive which supports less waste and overall lowers the impact on the environment.

This also means that, rather than having to replace the entire floor in the event of damage, each tile or plank can be lifted individually, making it the perfect option for busy spaces. Likewise, with repurposing materials being a big focus, Karndean LooseLay can be relifted to use again in other projects.

Our new extra-large (1000mm x 1000mm) tile size, available in three concrete designs, now makes it even easier to get a desirable streamlined look with minimalist clean lines and an unbroken effect. With a subtle emboss and matt finish, the creamy-grey tones of Quebec, complex grey shades of Colorado and gunmetal grey mottled effect of Vermont now offer the option to cover larger areas quickly and incorporate effective wayfinding or zoning and can even be combined with other floor coverings such as carpet tiles.

In spaces where acoustic qualities are key there is no need to compromise on style. Unlike a real concrete floor, Karndean’s LooseLay flooring absorbs the impact of noise. An incorporated acoustic layer effectively reduces noise transfer to the floor below by 13dB and, for additional protection, tiles can be installed over Versilay InstaShield to achieve impact sound reduction of 17dB.

Naturally warmer and softer underfoot than concrete, Karndean flooring is also compatible with underfloor heating systems and is easier to keep hygienically clean, requiring no resealing or resurfacing.

Whether you choose a single design for a seamless minimalist atmosphere or combine two or more designs to create a random pattern or walkways and activity zones to help users navigate the space, the LooseLay collection offers outstanding flexibility and performance.
