Love is… entertaining

Posted on the 22/02/2023 by Karndean Designflooring

To  entertain is to love

Entertain (verb: to show love)

This year we’re all about making happy memories with our loved ones so staying in is the new going out. But is your home guest ready?

When we host friends and family at home we can show our love and ensure our guests feel comfortable with a cosy inviting atmosphere and hearty but healthy food, even if we choose to seek a little outside help with the actual cooking!

These days many of us are looking to entertain informally with a rustic supper and chat around the table but worry that our kitchen diner can slip from homely to messy. The key to avoiding this is to carefully plan out your space, ensuring you have enough cupboard space to hide away all your kitchen appliances and gadgets and opting for easy clean surfaces that you can quickly wipe down as you go.

There’s nothing better than a lovingly set table to help your guests feel cherished. Choose a natural tablecloth and napkins then add pretty tableware, scented candles and fresh spring flowers.

Pick out an informal menu that’s easy on your stress levels such as a one-pan casserole and other self-serve dishes placed in the middle of the table or indulge in the latest dining trend of group cooking with a portable indoor grill to give the sociable feel of a barbeque but without the open fire and temperamental weather.

For a playful element that’s being picked up by designers across the board, why not consider adding some cool kitsch with a vintage inspired wine bar or cocktail cabinet and embrace your inner mixology showmanship.

Decorating your kitchen diner with natural colours and textures will bring the healing nature of the garden into your home. For a relaxing look that also reflects your individuality, keep the colour palette soft and gentle with rustic earthy tones then add highlights in shades that make you smile. The latest trends are packed with calming yet fun options but don’t let that stop you choosing your particular favourites.

With all the beauty of natural wood and stone but without the tricky maintenance and practical downsides, Karndean flooring offers you the flexibility to express your own style. Perhaps you love the rustic look of timber floorboards, the heritage vibe of geometric tiles or the converted barn chic of slate. Or perhaps you want something a little quirky with a mix of abstract patterned tiles and wood herringbone planks. The world’s your oyster as they say.
