The best kitchen trends for 2024

Posted on the 01/03/2024 by Karndean Designflooring

Hands up if your kitchen is tired or past its best. Whether you’re looking for a quick update with a new floor or a complete transformation, now is a great time to start planning for a beautiful kitchen - a clean and tidy space that you’ll simply love to spend time in.

We take a quick look at some of the kitchen trends experts say will be big in 2024. From traditional Shaker in chalky shades to the reinvention of wood units and celebrity inspiration, we’ve found plenty of ideas to spark your imagination.

Light and natural

Unsurprisingly, our love of Shaker style kitchens shows no sign of fading. With its clean lines, versatile colour options, this is a practical style that’s tranquil and easy to live with.

For the latest interpretation of this look and to make the most of your kitchen’s natural light, opt for a warm chalky white across units and walls then add a white worksurface and clean metallics such as chrome or polished brass. This kitchen by @oursuffolkhomerenovation also features a deeper contrasting colour on island units and introduces texture and soft beige colours with a neutral brushed oak herringbone floor and wooden bar stools.

Kitchen island, yes or no?

Recently there’s been hot debate about kitchen islands. Some designers love them, others not so much. What do you think? We think it’s great to have the choice! If you have an extended kitchen diner, an island is the perfect way to provide extra storage, working space and somewhere to enjoy a sociable coffee. But if storage space isn’t an issue, you may decide that the comfort of sitting at a table is more important.

In their open plan extension, @home_number_3 has cleverly worked around a structural column and divided up the space into useful activity zones. A wall of off-white units fades into the background while an island unit in contrasting charcoal creates a convenient working triangle. Maximising the sense of space and introducing an interesting texture, they have opted for a limed oak herringbone floor using full-size planks.

Wood units are back!

Forget the twee faux rustic styles of the 90s, the latest wood kitchens are full of earthy warmth and personality.

For a sleek contemporary look that still offers natural beauty and a wellbeing boost, combine handleless wood units with a matching or white worksurface, slab splashbacks, black and chrome accessories and an industrial concrete design floor. While actual concrete floors can be cold underfoot and require regular maintenance, you can get this polished look with a lot less hassle with our collection of concrete inspired designs.

Timeless elegance

The latest kitchen styles also reintroduce richly textured woods alongside bolder neutral colours and warm metals such as copper or brass, resulting in a classic look that won’t date.

For a relaxed botanical atmosphere, combine sophisticated dark green or charcoal kitchen units and walls, crisp white woodwork and ceiling with antique oak. To maintain the timeless lines, hide appliances behind full height cupboards then add a hardwearing marble worksurface and waterfall island for a contemporary twist. Completing the look with a rich wood herringbone floor, your kitchen can boast an iconic look straight out of a stately home.

Be inspired by celebrity kitchens

There’s nothing we love more than snooping around celebrity homes for inspiration. Gwyneth Paltrow has designed her new home as a “Parisian apartment set within an old European barn”. Her kitchen oozes classic French styling and chic accessories.

Traditional style units painted in off-white are complemented by fluted wall panelling, statement lighting and a rustic table for informal dining, while chevron flooring in a warm oak design introduces an unexpected pattern and completes the dreamy look. You can get this look too with our Van Gogh brushed oak chevron designs.
