Let food inspire your style

We can find inspiration for our home anywhere: a favourite piece of art, memories of summer holidays or a quirky fabric that catches our eye. But have you ever looked to your dinner table?

The designers at Lick paints did just that and found surprising inspiration in an iconic bottle of Heinz ketchup. The resulting limited edition paint has certainly caught the imagination of the nation!

Red is a highly energetic colour and so can be a good choice when you want to stimulate activity. Lick’s Red HTK57 features balanced black and yellow undertones making this a very adaptable red that is super easy to live with.

If ketchup red has caught your eye but you’re not sure how to introduce this vibrant colour into your home, we’ve put together five moodboards to ignite your creativity.

Pep up a neutral dining room

Adding a bold pop of colour by painting your dining chairs red will add a lively autumnal zing to a neutral dining room.

Dutch Limed Oak from our Knight Tile range is a versatile design that will complement a calming palette of soft off-white with slight hints of pink and warm beige shades as well as provide a balancing contrast to the deep red of HTK 57. Choose this design in full sized planks for a seamless flow or opt for a herringbone pattern to introduce an interesting sense of movement.

Be bold in the kitchen

Colourful kitchens are totally on-trend, from sunshine yellow and ochre to deep blues and greens. Ketchup red has now joined these go-to colours for bold kitchens.

Embrace this look with a colour drenched effect on units and walls or take a half and half approach with red base units and soft neutral walls and wall units. Alternatively, why not dip your toes into the trend and introduce a touch of red as a trim on cupboard doors.

With a durable and waterproof surface that’s easy to keep hygienically clean, our stone designs are the perfect choice for a timeless kitchen that can stand up to the demands of modern life. The soft grey of Argento from our Opus range brings you an authentic look of limestone with interesting pearlescent veining. For a classic style, lay tiles in a brick pattern with a light design strip to replicate grouting, or for a more contemporary vibe opt for a simple block layout or stylish herringbone pattern.

Dramatic colour drenching in the sitting room

For a totally cosy vibe that’s just perfect for snuggling up through the long winter evenings, why not take this warm red over walls, ceilings and woodwork. Add highlights in pale beige and complementary blues or greens with soft furnishings to add depth and textural interest. Then put your feet up with a mug of hot chocolate and relax!

Walnut from our Van Gogh collection combines a really striking linear grain with variable chocolate and warm mid brown tones that will hold its own against the deep hues of HTK57. Consider a keyline border in a darker chocolate tone for a really striking finishing touch to your space.

Draw the eye in a narrow hallway

A narrow hallway can feel like a long tunnel but creating a focal point will prevent your attention slipping straight to the very end. Create a feature (and useful storage) by upcycling a neglected side table in bold red.

Combine this with a warm botanical theme and you’ll have a welcoming space where visitors will feel instantly at home. The lightly brushed neutral grain of Canadian Urban Oak from our Van Gogh range will enhance your nature inspired space with subtle elegance. A highly versatile design, choose either long straight planks or a textural herringbone pattern in a format that suits your subfloor.

A very grown up bedroom

A classic choice for bedrooms, pink is a calming and restful colour. But forget childish nursery palettes, Red HTK 57 is the perfect addition to add depth and character to a pink master bedroom.

Choose a soft warm pale pink with tiny hints of grey for the walls then a deeper earthy shade for the ceiling and woodwork and add bold red highlights by painting a wardrobe or chest of drawers.

An aged wood design floor will give your bedroom an evolved, lived in feel. Croftmore Oak from our Van Gogh range would be the perfect choice. Its mature grain details and worn markings give this floor an authentic look and texture. For a realistic look of floorboards why not add design strips to replicate gaps between planks.
