This month we were delighted to chat to Agnes Troszt, co-founder and producer of animation wizard Sand Visuals, about how parquet flooring from our Art Select range has revitalised her home and added value to her family’s life.
Hi Agnes, we love your home’s new look! What were your goals when you decided on a new floor?
When we moved into our home we updated our open plan living and dining rooms with a cool minimalist look. We kept the existing neutral carpet and added contemporary panelling and white walls which made our artwork and green velvet sofa really pop. But we weren’t entirely happy with the overall effect so we looked to update the floor.
With a young child, a dog and a cat in the house, all running in and out of the garden, there was a lot of cleaning to do! We also suspect a mild dust allergy in our daughter so replacing the fitted carpet became a priority for us.

Tell us about your style and where you find inspiration.
I find the natural world very calming so I wanted to create an earthy look that wouldn’t date, with some modern, mid-century vibes and a sprinkle of coziness.
The living room and dining room are south-west facing so we get lots of lovely sunshine. The warmer tone of our new Karndean floor complements this beautifully and makes the space very warm and welcoming.
Why did you choose Karndean parquet?
Our animation studio has worked with Karndean for a couple of years now and I have always admired the quality of the floor and the potential to be creative with the different laying patterns, borders and design strips.
I wanted to add a slight texture and playfulness to the two rooms and the parquet pattern does just that. Although herringbone flooring is very on-trend right now, it is also very elegant and timeless. I simply fell in love with the authenticity of Blond Oak from the Art Select range and felt this would offer us the perfect combination of traditional and contemporary style.
The practical benefits of Karndean flooring were also important to us. The hygienic, waterproof surface is so easy to keep clean which is ideal for our busy family life!
Has the floor changed how you use the space?
We’ve been amazed how much simply changing the floor has transformed the look and usability of our home! The living room opens up to the garden so we are inadvertently bringing in all sorts of dirt when gardening or entertaining. But the new floor means we don’t have to worry about things like wet shoes, germs or scratches.
What do you like best about your new look home?
The living room! We are planning to open up the dining room and install a new kitchen so we haven’t done much styling in that area. The living room, however, is coming along nicely.
The paneling on the wall, the colourful bookcase and our cosy velvet sofa live in harmony with the new floor. I’m also quite obsessed with the border detail, which we created with a row of straight lay planks and a line of design strips. This was suggested by a friend and everyone agrees it adds finesse to the floor.
Our home is always evolving and I’m planning to add a few bolder colours to both rooms. The neutral colour of the floor allows for that too.
