Meet the floor styles you’ll love in 2023

Posted on the 02/02/2023 by Karndean Designflooring

This year is likely to see us focussing on perfecting a home style that we can love for many years to come. Our homes are evolving into elegant yet nurturing spaces that reflect our personalities with styles that are optimistic, convivial and maybe a bit whimsical.

Kinder to our pockets and our well-being, and taking an environmentally conscious approach to consumption, the latest home trends are very much inspired by nostalgia and nature, but with a new twist and a sense of playfulness.

Designers are selecting natural colour palettes and materials that will stand the test of time, refurbishing or repurposing furniture and accessories, and rearranging rooms for a more social feel. The results are welcoming and comfortable spaces that appeal to all our senses.

Here are five flooring styles to complement these latest trends that we predict will be popular this year:

1.  Herringbone

A perennial favourite that adds an interesting texture to your home, herringbone flooring is going nowhere! This year, we predict that traditional parquet will continue to give way to a more contemporary look using a longer plank for a more subtle, elegant result.

Our herringbone collection includes 20 wood and stone designs in an 18 x 3” plank or tile size so you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice. In addition, many* of our full-length planks can be laid in a herringbone pattern to give impact over larger open plan spaces or you could combine two or more complementary or contrasting designs for a truly individual look.

*Our rigid core full-sized planks and tiles are not suitable for laying in a herringbone pattern.

2.  Chevron

Evolving from the popularity of herringbone floors, chevron is set to become the biggest flooring trend of 2023!

Chevron is a confident interpretation of a traditional style that demands to be noticed and admired, bringing a sense of movement with a strong geometric element. Our Kaleidoscope range offers two chevron designs, featuring our Opus Pallida and Knight Tile Rose Washed Oak, but you can create this laying pattern with any of our wood or stone designs custom cut to order.

3.  Floors  laid  on  an  angle

More of us are getting braver when it comes to designing a floor that is individual and reflects the uniqueness of our homes and we see this year witnessing an increase in more imaginative laying patterns.

For example, laying planks at 45 degrees to the walls can elevate your floor from the everyday to something quite extraordinary. Not only will this laying pattern make a small room feel so much bigger, but it also lends itself beautifully to personalised finishing touches such as a border pattern with a coordinating quadrant border or feature design strips.

4.  Monochrome

A timeless classic in utilitarian spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms, monochrome designs are increasingly finding new outlets in other rooms.

The cool freshness of marble will add a sophisticated luxurious look to a calming white-on-white scheme in a living room or bedroom. Opt for a streamlined look with our Art Select or Knight Tile marble designs or combine two trends with full sized tiles and a feature rug effect in a matching herringbone pattern.

Inspired by the clean serenity of Art Deco interiors, we also anticipate that black and white interiors will be prominent. A combination of black or very dark grey and white slate, limestone or marble designs in bold geometric shapes would give these spaces a sophisticated yet restful feel.

5.  Bold  colours

While pale neutral colour schemes are already top picks for 2023, this isn’t a look for everyone. If you prefer the stimulation of bolder interiors, you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of more colourful options on offer. From dark nature inspired palettes to fun sorbet and pastel tones, more of us will also be having fun playing with colour combinations that bring us joy.

Our Heritage Collection was inspired by the grandeur and bold colours of Victorian and Regency villas and brings you four classic geometric tile patterns and a palette of 12 traditional and contemporary colours. We’ve put together a collection of popular designs but you can also choose a bespoke combination of colours for a floor that’s uniquely you.
