Feel zen in a home bathroom

Posted on the 01/03/2023 by Karndean Designflooring

The outside world continues to be a challenging place so now more than ever it’s important to create a space for daily self-care. A place where we can unwind and experience restorative calm and tranquillity.

Whether you want to give your bathroom a complete makeover or create a feeling of serenity with some well-considered tweaks, the key trends this year are all about reimagining our bathrooms as a home spa sanctuary.

To help you get the elegant bathroom feel, we’ve explored four of our favourite bathroom styles.

1. The beauty of simplicity

Soft fluid forms and off-white monochrome colours will give your bathroom a soothing contemporary look. Baths and basins lend themselves easily to curves but you can also introduce elliptical shapes with architectural mouldings, mirrors and other accessories.

When it comes to the floor, we love the visual contrast of geometric lines. For example, a herringbone floor in Midnight Marble, one of our Knight Tile limestone designs would introduce a gentle sense of movement and depth.

2. Interesting patterns

Bathrooms can seem stark and clinical so adding bold patterns and unexpected colour combinations to your bathroom is a sure fire way to bring joy to your daily routine. Choose a colour scheme that makes you smile, whether that’s turquoise blue, bubblegum pink or raspberry red. Then add geometric or linear patterns on walls and the floor to make a small room appear so much bigger.

For a timelessly luxurious and indulgent look you can’t beat the abstract patterns of marble. Real stone can be high maintenance, requiring regular sealing, but with Karndean you can be confident that your floor will not stain and also be surprisingly warm and comfortable underfoot.

3. Rustic nostalgia

Protecting the environment is at the forefront of our minds right now so we are embracing bathroom designs that minimise our impact with a combination of modern practical materials and antique or vintage pieces. This is the perfect trend if you love a quirky individual approach with an artisan handcrafted quality and a collated collection of accessories that tells your own personal story.

To get the time worn look without any of the hassle, opt for a weathered stone design flooring such as Portland Stone or a bleached wood style like Dutch Limed Oak, both from our Knight Tile range. For a truly authentic result, add a complementary design strip to replicate the look of tile grout or floorboard gaps.

4. Calm botanicals

A bathroom with organic colours and the warm texture of wood will envelop you in the healing power of the natural world. With soft earthy tones, cosy towels and a cascade of houseplants, this is a trend that will engage all your senses. Close your eyes and you can almost imagine yourself relaxing in a hot tub outside a rustic cabin in the middle of a forest glade.

A wood design floor with a natural linear grain would work best here. Opt for a warm colourway and lay in either a traditional floorboard pattern or a more modern herringbone pattern. With the reassurance of a waterproof surface that gives germs nowhere to hide, your Karndean floor will be super easy to keep hygienically clean.
