Kayla Reynolds, a digital creative who shares her home decorating story on Instagram @reynoldsresidence, has created a tranquil home in the heart of a Midlands city; a retreat in calming shades of neutral creams and natural materials. Join us as we step inside her home for a guided tour.

Some people might find moving into a new build house with a completely blank canvas a bit intimidating. But not Kayla! With a keen sense of style and an eye for a bargain, she knew exactly how to create a characterful home that suited their lifestyle.

Kayla said: “Our style is classic and rustic yet contemporary. We love the timeless feel of a rural cottage and knew that we could create this welcoming homely feel in a new property with a modern country style and a warm palette of soft neutrals. Over the years I’ve learnt all sorts of shopping and styling hacks, so we were able to get the look we wanted without breaking the bank.”

A welcoming hallway

Entering Kayla’s home, the hallway is an oasis of calm that instantly puts visitors at ease. Practical storage keeps clutter tucked out of sight and provides opportunities for an ever changing seasonal tableau. With this practicality in mind, Kayla opted for flooring in Lime Washed Oak from our Knight Tile range.

She told us: “The Lime Washed Oak floor matches my style perfectly. I love its authentic colour variation and grain patterning. It’s hardwearing and so easy to keep clean, something that’s especially important with three dogs in the house!”

The heart of the home

The same flooring continues into the kitchen diner and utility room, giving the whole space a cohesive sense of flow.

Kayla explained: “The Shaker style ivory units had been installed in the kitchen and utility before we purchased the house, so we have concentrated on introducing character with the flooring and accessories. Adding open shelving is one of my favourite tips for giving any kitchen an informal farmhouse vibe.”

Home office style

Keen to build on this sense of cohesion and flow, Kayla has recently replaced the original grey carpet in their home office with Lime Washed Oak

Kayla said: “Our home office was a blank canvas when we moved in. We panelled the walls, painted in neutral colours and added wooden accents but the dull grey poor quality carpet was letting the room down. We love our Karndean flooring and it’s so practical, so we decided to bring this into the study too. Now the downstairs of our home flows much better and the whole space feels so much bigger!”

Thank you to Kayla for giving us the opportunity to explore her beautiful home and for sharing her clever styling hacks. You can follow Kayla’s latest restyling projects on Instagram @reynoldsresidence.
