This month we are delighted to welcome back our guest blogger Lydia Rose. After sharing the story of her kitchen update last year, when she introduced interest and texture with our Savannah Oak herringbone flooring, Lydia has returned to talk about how she has brought style and serenity to their home gym.

A home style and fashion blogger and influencer, Lydia Rose posts about her inspiring home transformations on Instagram @interiorsinflux.

“Hi, I’m Lydia Rose and I live with my fiancé Dan and cat Coco in Sheffield. Luckily, our house has some lovely original features and an open light filled feel so we have been able to indulge our love of minimalist style, adding character with beautiful wood design flooring.

When it came to updating our spare bedroom, we really wanted to create a calming retreat we would make use of every day rather than just a few times a year when people come to stay. So we’ve transformed it into a hard-working multi-use space with a daybed for guests, plenty of storage and home gym equipment.

Because we use a treadmill and weights, it was important that the flooring would give us good sound protection, stand up to heavy equipment and could be easily cleaned. After looking at several options, we realised that a rigid core format would offer the perfect blend of looks and practicality.

We decided the Korlok range would be ideal for our needs so we ordered a few samples and lived with these for a week or so, moving them into different lights at different times of day to make sure we were happy. I was surprised at how much difference this made - even the weather affected how the tones worked together!

We loved the straight grains and subtle neutral tones of Canadian Nude Oak, which we thought worked really well with the more pronounced patterning of the Savannah Oak floor downstairs. This design was in keeping with the natural look we’re going for but was a little more nude looking and balanced well with the white walls and black gym equipment.

As well as looking amazing, we’ve been impressed by how comfortable it is to walk on and how easy it is to keep clean. If we knock over a glass of water while working out, for example, we can quickly wipe up the mess without worrying the floor will be damaged.

We were told that a Korlok floor would be sturdy and stand up to frequent use but it’s exceeded our expectations. We’ve had no issues with excessive noise, even when we’re really going for it!

The gym room is now somewhere we go throughout the day and works perfectly as a chill out space for us and for our guests!”
