Floors to put a spring in your step

During winter the natural world has been sleeping and we’ve also retreated to homes decorated in deep cosy colours which have wrapped us up in a comforting blanket. But with leaves unfurling and spring blossom appearing, now’s a great time to welcome back warmer days and introduce lighter, brighter colours.

Setting aside a day (or two) for a spring clean and home refresh will give you the chance to clear away any clutter that’s accumulated and get ready for the next chapter of the year. Store away heavy curtains and warm blankets and throw open windows and doors to the fresh air. We love to let daylight flood in by leaving windows clear or adding white blinds and sheer curtains where privacy is important. Large mirrors, strategically placed, can also bounce natural light into even the furthest corners.

Experiment with colour

Nature is a great healer, so in these challenging times we can use organic colours and textures to help us shrug off the darkness. From gentle nurturing shades of cream and beige to leafy greens of all shades, floral pinks and purples to the blues of sky and sea, the colours of nature can lift our spirits and support our wellbeing.

A mood board is a great way to experiment with different colours and textures, helping you find a scheme that reflects your personality and makes you smile. Try blending pale neutrals with darker tones, perhaps adding a touch of glamour with statement lighting or a wall in a patterned floral, Chinoiserie or geometric wallpaper. Fake panelling is also popular right now and is a simple way to add depth and interest to plain walls.

Then complete your new look with a complementary floor design. With nearly 300 designs to choose from, including wood, stone, geometric and abstract patterns, there’s sure to be a Karndean floor that’s an ideal match.

Here are a few of our favourite designs for a spring palette:

Bright and breezy

Summer living is all about time spent in the garden but when you choose Karndean flooring you won’t need to worry about dirty footprints. Our durable surface treatment means that mess and germs can be quickly and easily dealt with, leaving you with a hygienically clean floor. So you can confidently choose a pale design to complement your light and airy colour scheme.

Light wood designs such as White Washed Pine or Blush Oak are the perfect choice for a Scandi or artisan style, with their authentic grains and textures that complement unbleached linens and neutral beiges. If you’re looking for a floor with hints of grey and pink to add warmth to an all-white space, consider our popular Distressed Oak and Light Distressed Oak designs.

A twist on traditional

Adding a sense of flow to your home, a herringbone floor is a great way to add pattern to a pared back scheme.

From traditional small parquet planks such as Blond Oak that give an intimate feel to contemporary larger sizes such as Mountain Oak that add character, this elegant laying pattern looks like it’s going to be a firm favourite for many years to come. If you have your heart set on a stone floor, you’ll be pleased to hear our Opus range includes two designs, Fumo and Argento, which are available in both large tiles and herringbone.

You don’t even have to worry if you have an uneven sub-floor! You can still achieve a herringbone pattern with our Van Gogh rigid core herringbone designs. Another option for open plan spaces is to lay full sized planks from our gluedown or loose lay ranges in a herringbone pattern for an oversized look that visually expands your space.

Cool classic

Once only considered for conservatories, kitchens or bathrooms, the clean elegance of stone can now be found gracing any room in the house. Lending a cool relaxed vibe, a stone design floor will transport you to hotter climes and carefree holiday moments. Unlike real stone, our stone floors are warm and comfortable underfoot and more forgiving of spills and accidents.

Complement a cool colour palette with the light grey tones of a limestone design such as Argento or Cotswold Stone or, if your chosen colour scheme has warmer hues, introduce a cosy earthy look with Terra or Bluff.

Striking geometrics

A geometric floor is sure to stand out for all the right reasons! A great choice for adding pattern and character to a minimalist interior but equally the perfect foil for a changing palette of bright colours, our range of geometric tiles include subtly elegant patterns and strikingly bold designs.

Whether you are looking to recreate a sense of the past or make a contemporary statement in a more modern home, our Heritage Collection offers you a beautiful range of geometric tile patterns in both monochrome and bold colourways. The classic black and white combination of Clifton or the modern grey and white of Lansdown will add the wow factor to a pastel palette or balance fresh white walls and colourful artwork.

The Heritage Collection is made up of four tile patterns and 12 individual colours, all of which can be mixed and matched in any combination, so you can express your individuality with a truly unique floor!
