An influential creative and interior designer who runs popular crafting workshops, Joanne Mooney’s signature style is defined by her love of zesty dopamine colours and handcrafted artwork, something which abound in her Dublin home.

Always updating her family home in her eclectic playful style, Joanne’s latest project was to design and install her dream kitchen. Featuring warm buttery yellow and dusky pink units, pops of green and burgundy woodwork, quartz countertops and voile café curtains she embroidered herself, Joanne’s new kitchen now glows with contemporary country style.

Joanne told us: “This kitchen is east facing so a lot of the time we struggled to bring in light. I wanted to open a larger window but this wasn’t practical so I created a visual illusion with an oversized frame and introduced my favourite colours in warm earthy tones. The soft yellow and pink units alongside oak design flooring have transformed this dark space and given it a new lease of life. It’s like permanent sunshine in my kitchen all year round.”

Having inherited her creativity from her mother, who still shares her crocheting and dressmaking skills, Joanne also shares her own talents freely and has recently worked with a local charity to design a beautifully colourful and welcoming safe space for women experiencing homelessness.

“I find inspiration every day wherever I go, from hotels, cafes and restaurants to other people’s homes. My eyes are always on stalks. I also take a lot of ideas from social media. I was a sucker for magazines years ago. Now I find myself scrolling on Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok. There’s so much out there, it’s sometimes overwhelming. If anyone is trying to find their own style, I’d say it’s important to stay grounded. Take inspiration from the latest trends but don’t follow them slavishly, just pick out the elements that really appeal to you.”

Having already installed Spring Oak parquet from the Art Select range in her living room and hallway, Joanne explained that it was an easy decision to continue this same flooring into her new kitchen, giving it timeless elegance and creating a sense of movement and visual flow throughout the ground floor.

“I would 100% recommend Karndean flooring as it’s so practical and looks ultra-realistic. A week after our kitchen was fitted the washing machine leaked and we had a mini flood! I was so grateful that we’d chosen Karndean. I think if the floor had been wood, it would have been destroyed. That’s what I love about this floor. It’s so durable but also looks warm and inviting. Everyone who comes into my home compliments the Karndean. We just love it!”

Joanne’s future plans include revamping her dining room into a cosy snug. One thing’s for certain, it’ll include plenty of colour and lots of her own beautiful handmade textile art. We can’t wait to follow her progress on Instagram @joannemooney_.
