The refreshed collection showcases seven new timber-inspired designs developed through Karndean's rigorous design origination process, transforming carefully selected natural materials into flooring designs that combine authenticity, practicality and enduring appeal.
In 2024, Karndean travelled to Tasmania’s rugged west coast in search of remarkable reclaimed timbers, discovering pieces shaped by centuries of growth in the island’s ancient temperate rainforests. Naturally preserved over time, these native timbers reveal rich grain, tonal variation and distinctive imperfections that make each piece unique. Their character tells a story of place, age and the landscapes where they began.
These timber references became the inspiration for three new Ancient Australian Woods designs: Corinna Tasmanian Oak, West Tasmanian Oak and Balfour Blackwood. Through Karndean’s design process, the character of these reclaimed timbers has been translated into flooring designs that bring a distinctly Australian sense of warmth, depth and natural beauty into contemporary homes.
The inspiration continues across Europe, with Natural Deauville Oak and Drift Deauville Oak taking their cues from the weathered beauty of the French coastal town of Deauville, while Pale Swiss Elm and Dark Swiss Elm draw inspiration from the refined grain and tonal variation of timber found across Alpine regions of Switzerland and northern Italy.
The Oak designs feature a New Surface Finish, with precision embossing developed from multi-layered 3D digital scans of natural oak to closely replicate its grain, knots and tonal variation. Enhanced finishes across the collection add greater depth and definition for a more authentic timber look underfoot.
