Lydia’s minimalist home oozes serenity

Posted on the 17/05/2021 by Karndean Designflooring

This month we are delighted to welcome guest blogger Lydia Rose to talk about how she has created a home that’s the perfect place to relax with Karndean flooring.

A home style and fashion blogger and influencer, Lydia Rose has been sharing the story of her inspiring home transformations with her Instagram community @interiorsinflux.

“Hi, I’m Lydia Rose and I live with my fiancé Dan and cat Coco in Sheffield. We moved into our new home in August of last year after falling in love with its open light filled spaces. The house is a great blank canvas and already had some beautiful features such as ornate coving and engineered wood flooring. We’ve been slowly updating each room to make it our own.

Our style is quite minimalist and modern but with warm touches to soften things. We love the calmness of a white and pale grey colour scheme paired with the natural look of wood flooring.

Our latest project goes right through from our hallway into the kitchen and utility, finishing at the back of our house with a downstairs loo. It’s quite a big space to cover so choosing a single floor design across the whole area has helped to make sure the areas flowed well.

In the hallway we’ve added a bit of interest with some wall panelling and our joiner made us a bespoke radiator cover, all painted in fresh white. In such a small space, I find the simplicity of an all-white scheme really restful.

In the kitchen we were happy to keep the existing charcoal grey units so we simply changed the wood worksurface to a white laminate then removed the wall tiles and replaced them with a simple matching upstand. I’m quite a perfectionist so I’m still on the look out for that perfect splashback to go behind the hob!

The flooring was previously wood effect laminate. It was looking a bit past its best and had that typical ‘tinny’ sound to walk on. The other rooms that lead off the hallway have wood flooring and so we wanted something that would tie in well with this.

Karndean definitely had the design range we were looking for. With so many designs to choose from, we were able to find the perfect tonal match for our engineered wood floors. We opted for Savannah Oak from the Art Select range, laid in a herringbone pattern. This was perfect as there are a mix of shades in the packs, picking up all the tones in our existing floors.

We had our hearts set on a herringbone style floor with a border and this has really updated the space while keeping a traditional feel. Everything ties in so much better now and the flooring looks great with the warmer accessories we’ve gone for. We also wanted a better quality feel underfoot. There’s definitely a noticeable difference between the Karndean flooring and the old laminate.

Our home is now a relaxing and serene place where we love to chill out with friends and family. It’s a winner on a practical level too. I admittedly love a quick spray mop and the Karndean flooring has been brilliant for that. It’s so easy to fit in a speedy clean now!”
