Urban hotels break the mould with multi-use design

Posted on the 08/10/2019 by Karndean Designflooring

A new style of small hotel is introducing flexible interior design to target millennials looking for cost effective yet stylish places to stay in the hippest locations.

Providing simplicity without compromising on quality, urban hotels are making maximum use of the space available by providing everything their guests need without the superfluous extras often found in luxury hotels. Combining clever multi-use functionality with hard-working interior design, these new establishments are fun and easy to use but also efficient to run.

Making a striking first impression, entrance lobbies are creating a social and inviting home-from-home feel with informal seating combined with convenient guest facilities such as 24-hour bar and snacks and self-service check-in. Open to both guests and local residents, hotel bars and restaurants are becoming flexible areas that can adapt to co-working space and meeting rooms for local entrepreneurs during the day, offering extended services from early morning coffee and light snacks to late night cocktails and entertainment.

The new brand of hotels is proving that compact rooms need not look cluttered or restrictive. In small guest bedrooms space hungry furnishings are being removed to prioritise generous sized beds and wall-mounted TVs connected to streaming services, instead offering wall mounted pegs to hang clothes and fold down desks and chairs.

Carefully pared down colour schemes together with space-enhancing fittings create the impression of spaciousness and ensure that the latest designs appear effortlessly chic. Incorporating a hard-wearing flooring in a realistic wood design will offer a welcoming home from home atmosphere while the smooth lines and natural textures lead the eye to visually extend boundaries.

Practical, easy to clean flooring is key to keeping maintenance, and therefore staffing requirements, to a minimum. By specifying Karndean, you can be confident that our flooring can stand up to the heavy footfall of busy hospitality establishments.

In bedrooms why not choose from our Karndean Looselay or LooseLay Longboard range which combines cutting edge technology with an authentic look of natural wood and stone. The modern lines and fresh look of our latest concrete inspired designs combine well with contemporary décor for a cool boutique hotel feel. In addition, the range’s enhanced acoustic qualities can reduce noise transfer to the floor below by 13dB.

With an easy-fit format and K-Wave friction grip backing which secures the floor firmly in place using a combination of weight and friction, LooseLay can be quickly and easily installed over most subfloor surfaces without adhesive. Not only that but if repairs are required each plank or tile can be simply lifted and replaced.

In high traffic public spaces, the durability of our gluedown ranges effortlessly stands up to the wear and tear of the most demanding environments for a floor that looks great for years to come. Available in a huge range of wood and stone designs as well as geometric shapes, a quirky bespoke interior can be created with a combination of flooring designs and laying patterns, which can even be taken from floor to wall for a truly unique and Insta-worthy experience.
