Midcentury modern style, like this chesterfield sofa, is on-trend for spring 2019

Spring 2019 Home Trends

Posted on the 4/2/2019 by Karndean Designflooring

Earlier this year, we made our trend predictions for 2019 and now that spring has arrived, you’re likely ready to update your space for the season. If you’re looking for some inspiration to get started, the following trends are ones you’ll see throughout the spring and into summer.

Scalloped Shapes

We mentioned that Art Deco would make a modern resurgence this year, and one element that fits this trend in particular is the scallop shape, which originally adorned flappers’ dresses. From furniture backings to table legs to backsplashes, this trend can be summed up in two words: curves ahead.

Shibori

Shibori is a Japanese fabric dyeing technique used to create patterns. If you’ve ever tie-dyed a shirt before, this follows the same process, however shibori typically uses indigo-colored dye. You can expect to see shibori used in pillows, upholstery and other accents. If you see this dyed effect in other inky colors, it’s likely due to the influence of this Japanese art.

70s Scandinavian/Midcentury Modern

If you like the simplicity of Scandinavian style or the style of midcentury modern furniture, but prefer to use more color, your moment has arrived! Think about incorporating bright colors into your existing Scandi or MCM inspired space, and not just as accent colors.

Sustainability

The concept of sustainably sourced pieces or ones made with recycled materials isn’t new in itself. However, an aspect of sustainability that is growing in popularity is purchasing pieces that have a long life cycle. If you have a lot of so-called “investment pieces” in your wardrobe, this follows that same idea.

One such “investment piece” for your home is flooring. If you want to find a sustainable floor, in terms of both composition and longevity, our LVT will meet those needs! Our flooring products are manufactured free from the addition of heavy metals, 'BPA' and formaldehyde. In addition, they comply with California's Proposition 65, are phthalate free and are FloorScore certified as low VOC (volatile organic compounds). In addition to being safe and sustainable, our products come with a lifetime residential warranty! This is one trend that will not go out of style anytime soon!

Which of these trends will you be incorporating into your home decor? For these and other ideas, follow us on Pinterest!
