The Look of Stone with the Durability of Karndean Luxury Vinyl

Karndean Designflooring

The use of natural stone in flooring has undergone remarkable and fascinating developments over time. More than 3000 years ago, the ancient Greeks created pebble mosaic floors by placing small, rounded stones into a bed mortar, forming decorative images, distinctive patterns and exquisite borders. Eventually, the small pebbles were replaced with flatter stone tiles such as marble that made it easier to work with but were no less stunning.

At Karndean Designfloooring, we have a beautiful range of tiles in many shapes and sizes, all inspired by nature. Our team of product designers travel the world to source intriguing natural stones to develop our original luxury vinyl designs. The end result is high quality, long-lasting flooring which holds the beauty of natural stone - including marble, limestone, travertine, slate and concrete - with none of the practical drawbacks.

Marble is an iconic stone composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals. We have truly captured the iridescent natural beauty of marble with our Art Select Fiore and Otono tiles. Use either one on its own to create a more contemporary marble tile look, or mix them both to create an upscale marble feature floor. Our Knight Tile range also offers complementary marble designs in Midnight Black and Carrara.

Limestone designs within the Art Select collection were inspired by the coastlines of the English Channel Islands and feature a dappled, handcrafted texture. Our Da Vinci and Knight Tile ranges offer additional limestone looks across a variety of color tones, including sandy browns, earthy gray-browns and darker grays.

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs over the course of millions of years. In its natural form, it is white, tan, and cream-colored. You'll find travertine-inspired designs in our Art Select and Opus collections. Our Art Select Travertines reflect the stone found in Yellowstone National Park's Mammoth Hot Springs.

Slate is derived from sedimentary rock that is composed of clay or volcanic ash. Grey-colored slate tiles have made a return in recent years, especially for wet areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. From our Art Select slates inspired by pieces sourced in Melbourne and Wales to our new Knight Tile slates from England's Lake District, Karndean slate tiles certainly make a sleek statement.

Concrete is a building material made from a mixture of broken stone or gravel, sand, cement and water, and is most commonly poured as a slab subfloor for new homes. Recently concrete has become a popular residential and commercial flooring option, especially when trying to create an industrial-inspired look. Plain, simple and often machine-finished to give it a smooth effect, concrete is both contemporary and chic. Our concrete-inspired visuals give you a variety of options to choose from, in an array of formats and tonal groups. Visit our recent concrete floors blog for more detail.
