2017 Color Trends

New Trends for the New Year

Karndean Designflooring

Will the new year bring a new look for your home? If you are in search of some design and color inspiration for a fresh start to 2017, get ahead of the curve by incorporating these shades into your design scheme.

While cool grays have been the go-to colors to match any décor, the pendulum is swinging in the other direction towards grays with warmer influences, causing taupe to surge in popularity. Shades of taupe will be dominating 2017 color palettes, and in fact, Sherwin-Williams has named Poised Taupe as the 2017 color of the year. As a neutral color, taupe would pair well with any Karndean floor of your choosing, leaving you with plenty of design freedom!

Navy is the new black. You may have noticed an increase in navy in 2016, but in 2017 expect deeper, more velvety wall colors as an overall trend, with inky blues as the dominant shades.

Looking for a Karndean floor to complement this trend? Try (from top left to bottom right) White Painted PineReclaimed MapleCambridgeSycamoreMacrocapraPalleoNatural Oak, or French Oak. If your current home décor follows the Scandinavian trend, you can keep the core design principles. Keep your overall color scheme neutral with your light colored flooring, but introduce dark blue colorways to add some drama.

Don't think of chalky colors as pastels - they are full-bodied colors topped with a matte wash. Chalky blues made an impact in 2016, and will continue to do so in 2017, along with chalky greens. You'll also see accents of pale pinks, yellows, and purples to accompany this trend. Any one of these shades will have a soft, calming effect on a room.

In case you missed it, last week Pantone announced its 2017 Color of the Year - Greenery! The color group describes Greenery as "nature's neutral." As outlined by Pantone, this yellow-green can be paired with neutrals, metallics, pastels and so much more!

If you're ready for a complete design overhaul, you can use these color trends to help you choose paint colors for your walls or to decide on the shade for a new couch. You can also integrate them in a more subtle way though, through pillows, soft furnishings and other home accents, giving a nod to the trend without committing to an expensive change.
