Moodboard featuring teal, tan and grey samples

Step 3: Which format and color?

Which format is right for you? Karndean Designflooring offers three types of luxury vinyl flooring to suit your design preferences and installation needs: gluedown, loose lay and rigid core. Television personalities and custom home builders Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt explain the differences.

Choosing your format

While any of our formats can be installed in any room of the home, you may be wondering what the differences are between each of these formats and how you know which one is right for you.

Rigid Core

RIGID CORE

Korlok Select Rigid Core
Korlok Reserve Rigid Core
Van Gogh Rigid Core
Knight Tile Rigid Core

Rigid core is a type of floating floor that clicks and locks into place and can be floated over most existing hard floors - no adhesive necessary.

Gluedown

GLUEDOWN

Art Select Gluedown
Da Vinci Gluedown

Loose Lay

LOOSE LAY

Consider tones

Warm tone floor - Natural Koa RKP8122

Neutral tone floor - French Oak VGW85T

Cool tone floor - Grey Oiled Oak RCP6541

Warm-toned floors tend to align with more traditional, timeless decor styles and are sure to create an inviting atmosphere.

A neutral-toned floor creates a clean backdrop to design the rest of the space. If you frequently like to change your decor, a neutral floor allows for the widest amount of options.

Cool-toned floors best compliment contemporary and modern styles and are sure to add drama and sophistication to any room in your home.
