Coastal Styling Brings the Beach to You

Posted on the 25/07/2018 by Karndean Designflooring

The fresh style of coastal interiors is hugely popular among residential designers – who doesn’t occasionally dream of living by the beach, breathing in the sea air and enjoying sunset walks along the sand? Whether you’re fortunate enough to live in a seaside location or you just like to indulge in a little retreat from the pace of everyday life, injecting carefree coastal themes into your home décor can renew body and soul. Here are a few tips on how to embrace seaside style and, at the same time, maintain sleek, contemporary design in your home.

To create your palette, first look to the colors of the sky, sea and sand. You’ll be surprised at how many different tones can be used to create your coastal haven, from subtle pebble grays to worn denim blues.

Achieve a Mediterranean villa look with a whitewashed color scheme. Airy and refreshing, white will illuminate your space and provide a neutral backdrop for ocean-inspired details. Invoke a relaxed beach hut vibe with wall paneling, and avoid the room looking stark by choosing a sand-toned floor.

Nothing says coastal more than letting the sun shine in as much as possible. Natural light is key to this style and will enhance the calming and tranquil ambiance. While blinds and shutters look great and are traditionally associated with the coastal theme, there’s something very peaceful about light fabric curtains gently floating every now and again in the breeze.

A coastal interior comes to life when you pay attention to the details. Introduce texture and character into your scheme by mixing weathered, shabby chic accessories, fuss free wood furniture and seaside motifs such as stripes and anchors.

Fill empty wall space with coastal vistas and ocean prints, and remember to accessorize with seashells, coral, starfish and pebbles.

You could even arrange your collection of beachy finds on a bookshelf or shelving unit if you’re worried about the space feeling too cluttered.

To complete the décor, home fragrances such as fresh linen, vanilla or coconut are the perfect addition to your interior. Do you have a coastal themed interior you’d like to share? Tag us on social media!
