2017 Design Trends

Karndean Designflooring

As another year of inspiring interiors is behind us, our thoughts turn to the trends that will dominate our home décor in 2017.  Introducing us to stylish new trends such as rose quartz colour palettes, copper accessories and marble surfaces, 2016 was a year filled with chic, clean design movements. 2017 is already promising to shake things up though – so we’ve pulled together some of our top design tips to help you stay on trend…

Natural Hues

2017 looks to muted colour palettes, drawing heavy influence from nature. Pantone, the authority in colour for design, have coined ‘Greenery’ as their colour of the year for 2017, so expect to see this shade cropping up in everything from wallpaper and furniture, from kitchen cabinets and household accessories. US paint giant Sherwin Williams nominated Poised Taupe as their colour of the year, a timeless neutral which denotes an earthy feel. Finally, UK paint supplier Dulux chose ‘Denim Drift’ as their colour of the year, a cool and dreamy blue-grey which makes us think of rich skies and calming seas.

Faux Finishes

Homeowners and designers are seeing the benefits of ‘going faux’; opting for budget friendly, reliable alternatives to authentic materials. We started to see this in 2016 with the use of marble paper for upcycling old furniture pieces, but this is set to be a growing trend in 2017. Expect to see more faux leather, luxurious wood effect products and fake plants gracing the shelves in home décor stores this year – making the lavish more accessible to everyone.

Minimal Style

Minimalism has always been a key interior design trend, however, in 2017 we expect to see it take a much more prominent stance in the home. Keep your eye out for space-saving, foldable furniture, retractable appliances and multi-functional pieces which will help you make the most of smaller spaces. The folding down table below provides you with a versatile surface that can be used as a dining table, display, or food prep area.Furthermore, it's white gloss finish is completely in keeping with it's surrounding minimal space.

Mixed Textures

Textures are as important as ever this year and the increase in popularity of faux materials has made it even easier to add variety to a space. Mix materials such as faux fur with velvet and satin and don’t be scared to go bold on your prints too. This year we’ll see a continuation of the 2016 tropical trend – so look out for floral and botanical prints. Don’t just opt for cushions and drapes to add texture though; you could also look at mixing wood, stone and even fabric effect flooring to really make a statement.
