Be colour confident with Elisha

Posted on the 15/02/2021 by Karndean Designflooring

We are delighted to welcome our latest guest blogger Elisha Utley who shares her design secrets for using colour in our homes.

An interior decorator and social influencer @Eli_at_home, Elisha is certainly not afraid of using colour in her own home and has filled her home with a confident mix of cheerful bold hues.

“Hi, I’m Elisha and I live with my family in a new build home near Rotherham which I am slowly decorating with my own personal twist on mid-century style.

I like to give every room in our house a bold injection of personality and character with colourful furniture, textures, houseplants and an eclectic mix of styles.

My advice to anyone thinking of adding colour is to start slowly, decorate for yourself and don’t follow a trend too much. Perhaps start with a few colourful cushions on a white background or add an accent chair or footstool before jumping in and ordering a new bright sofa.

Simply adding a contrasting throw, an interesting vase or changing a picture on the wall can add so much interest. Rearranging a bookcase into a rainbow creates a fun element and once you’re brave and know that colour is for you then go mad and add that rhubarb wallpaper!

Our bedroom is the latest room I’ve completed in our home and I would say that the style here is bright but cosy. I wanted to keep my walls simple in the bedroom but add pops of colour to make it interesting and fun.

I chose Karndean flooring for this room as I loved how much it looked like a wood parquet flooring but without the price and work. The skirting board didn’t need to be removed to fit it which was definitely one of the reasons I initially looked at this option.

The room previously had a cream carpet but with kids and dogs this wasn’t ideal and I was forever cleaning it. The Karndean is so child and pet friendly and it’s super warm underfoot. It was hard to choose from the many different designs but eventually I picked Blond Oak from the Art Select range as I wanted a traditional parquet look.

I like to mix old and new in my interior style and the Blond Oak gave me that mid-century option. It’s a colour that will last and complement our home however many times I change my décor, which knowing me will be a lot!

We now have Karndean flooring fitted in both the lounge and bedroom and the first thing I noticed is how clean it looks. But the best thing about it is how luxurious and warm it feels. It’s given our bedroom a very grand feeling with so much more personality. We just love it. As does everyone else who sees it.”

Our thanks to Elisha for her wise words of advice on introducing vibrant colours into our homes and sharing her bedroom makeover story. You can follow her decorating journey on Instagram; @Eli_at_home.
