Get the ‘au naturel’ interior trend

Posted on the 12/06/2019 by Karndean Designflooring

With summer fast approaching, we turn our attention towards lighter colours and natural textures. The warmer months provide us with the perfect opportunity to revamp our decor and look to alternative interior trends.

The ‘au naturel’ trend brings textures to the forefront, with colours taking a backseat, meaning the Summer 2019 season will see a wide range of natural colours and textures appearing when it comes to home décor.

These earthy tones and organic textures will enhance relaxation and tranquility, making it the perfect choice for those of us with a busy lifestyle wanting to transform our space into a cool and calm environment.

With textures taking the lead, it is important that you determine which neutral hue or hues you’d like to incorporate. Colourways such as beige, ivory, taupe and soft pastels make for a great neutral space. However, it is important that your soft furnishings and flooring complement your choice of colour.

When it comes to tones such as white and ivory, we’d suggest opting for a floor design with subtle golden hues like our Savannah Oak as the two colours will work perfectly with one another and tie the room together nicely. The golden wood-look, soft furnishings and flooring will provide lightness that will enhance the room and provide you with a calm space.

However, if you wanted to incorporate pastels within your ‘au naturel’ scheme, floor designs with rose tones such as our [Rose Washed Oak] will work perfectly with warm pastels, especially pinks and mauves. It also makes a great alternative to traditional browns and greys.

If you're looking to incorporate more detail or to divide areas in open plan spaces, why not consider an alternative laying pattern or parquet?

Our parquet style is unique and consists of individual planks being laid in a geometric pattern. A parquet floor is guaranteed to introduce character and a sense of interest to your home. Take our Blond Oak Parquet as an example; it holds all of the beauty and warmth of traditional wood, however, the planks can be laid in a variety of different patterns to create a style that suits your space. Laying your planks in a parquet format will allow you to see all of the different shades and grains within the design, enhancing the textures within your room.

However, if parquet isn’t for you, there are alternative laying patterns such as chevrons, brick-bond or block. You could even consider introducing subtle patterns like Storm Oak basketweave, Montpellier and Lansdown.

From there, all you need to do is decide on the little things you’d like to add in your room. For example; are you going to add a photograph wall? Greenery? Or keep it nice and simple?
