Danny's family home is given new lease of life

Posted on the 07/04/2021 by Karndean Designflooring

This month Danny Mac, actor and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, invites us to join him and his partner, actress Carley Stenson, as they create the home of their dreams in the house where Danny grew up.

Danny explained: “My family moved here in 1993 and we had an incredible upbringing. Long story short: life did its thing. Circumstances changed and it was time to move on. Mum really wasn’t ready to move but she had little choice. We wracked our brains...

“We were blessed with a large front garden plot so after a lot of research and a ton of advice we made some very optimistic plans to build a house for Mum. In 2019 Mum moved into her brand new house next door!

“Work had kept Carley and I apart for so long but we finally found ourselves ready to settle. It was then that we strangely began to see the potential of this crumbling bucket of memories... And so in June last year our journey began.”

With architectural plans in place but unsure how to translate all their style ideas into their dream home, they turned to interior designer Gina Everett of Create Perfect.

Gina said: “Danny and Carley came to me when they had just started the renovation and were overwhelmed by the blank canvas they had found themselves with. They wanted the overall look to be contemporary but also wanted a rustic tone running throughout.

“The design we created has an industrial meets country style with wood panelling, industrial light fittings and earthy colours as well as lots of natural materials. Opting for Karndean flooring throughout the house has enabled us to give each room its own character but with the reassurance of a hard wearing, low maintenance surface.”

Built into an extended roof space, the upstairs will be the first area of the house to be completed with a guest studio suite and a further bedroom and bathroom. On this floor, our Van Gogh range offered the practical flooring and rustic look that Danny and Carley were looking for.

In the guest studio they opted for Light Distressed Oak with its naturally weathered look and light silvery grey tones, while in the main bathroom they chose Distressed Oak in a rigid core format from the multi-format range with its slightly deeper tones and characterful grain details. The rigid core format comes with the added benefit of an acoustic backing that reduces sound transfer to spaces below.

Danny said: “The upstairs rooms have the light and spacious but earthy and rustic feel we wanted for our shabby-chic guest studio space. We are dreaming of the day we are able and allowed to welcome our friends and family to our home. Because we hope they stay for longer than a night or two, we wanted to give them a space they can escape to and make their own so we’re creating a lounge area, kitchenette and spacious en-suite. The room is still a work in progress of course but it’s starting to take shape and we can’t wait for the final reveal!”

As they announce the most exciting news, we’re also excited for the final reveal and look forward to following their story on Instagram @macstensonhome as they give their beloved family home a new future.
