Karndean staff and guests have raised £11,000 in support of three charities – Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals, Epilepsy Action and Vale of Evesham School – as part of our annual charity golf day at Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel, Tewkesbury.
After the success of previous golf days, we decided once again to host the event this year, with the money raised being split between three charities, two of which are local to Evesham. The team was delighted to be joined by Steve Davis, world snooker champion and keen golfer, who took part in a four ball for the day and gave an inspiring after-dinner speech.
The event also featured a raffle and an auction, with fantastic prizes including a signed Aston Villa football in a presentation case, tickets to an Aston Villa Football Club home game with hospitality, VIP tickets to a British Touring Car Championship 2019 event, tickets to watch England rugby team play Japan at Twickenham Stadium, an overnight stay at The Evesham Hotel and a Fortnum and Mason hamper.
Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity aims to improve local hospitals for everyone in the community, investing in state of the art equipment, improvements to facilities and care over and above that provided by the NHS; benefiting patients including those fighting cancer, people experiencing strokes or dementia, heart patients and new babies with serious illness.
Epilepsy Action exists to improve the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy. As well as campaigning to improve epilepsy services, the charity offers a national network of branches, epilepsy awareness volunteers, freephone and email helplines.
Vale of Evesham School is a Specialist School for Cognition and Learning, and works with parents/carers, schools and other agencies in our community to share practice and improve opportunities and life chances for all our young people.
Richard Hastilow-Smith, Head of Fundraising at the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, commented: “The staff at Karndean have really got behind their chosen charities and raised an incredible amount through the charity Golf Day. We’re incredibly grateful for this support, which will help provide extra care and equipment for local cancer patients such as special Rise and Recline Chairs which give comfort to patients receiving chemotherapy for long periods.”
Paul Barratt, managing director of Karndean Designflooring, said: “We are delighted to be able to raise money for these three charities because they are all doing vital work, improving and potentially saving lives, so the golf day was the perfect opportunity to support their causes and recognise their hard work.
“We appreciate the time and immense effort that went into organising this event, and I extend my thanks to everyone who attended. In particular, I would like to thank Steve Davis for giving his time to join us for this fundraising event, and also to the many businesses that donated such amazing prizes for our auction and raffle. It is due to the dedication and generosity of all those involved in the event that made it such a success.”
