It’s official: everyone loves herringbone floors

Posted on the 2022-09-07 by Karndean Designflooring

A herringbone floor is guaranteed to bring character and interest to any space, from living rooms and bedrooms to kitchens and bathrooms. Whether you’re looking for a traditional or contemporary style in either wood or stone design, with the comfort of vintage chic or the edginess of the latest trend, you can make this beautiful patterned floor your own.

Here are three herringbone designs that could be your new all-time favourite floor.

1.       Classic oak in the hallway

Hallways can be an awkward space to decorate but a floor with an interesting pattern will give you a welcoming hug as you walk in. Recreate a timeless period style with traditional 9” x 3” planks in a light oak design such as our Blond Oak with its gentle golden browns and intricate grain details. Add extra personality with a border pattern and your hallway will ooze elegance that can stand up to anything.

2.       Modern oak in the bathroom

For a contemporary take on the classic parquet style, opt for a modern 18” x 3” sized plank in a pale neutral wood design. From the subtle peachy hues of Savannah Oak to the cool grey tones of Glacier Oak, our Art Select collection offers a choice of oak designs that will bring the beauty of the natural world to life in your home. What’s more, with a waterproof surface that gives germs nowhere to hide, you can be confident that your herringbone floor will be super simple to keep hygienically clean.

3.       Slate in the kitchen

Stone floors have been a favourite in kitchens since the beginning of time but now a new interpretation is blending this classic option with our overwhelming love for herringbone. Our slate design, Fumo is available in both full sized and smaller 18x3” tiles, giving you endless options to play with patterns. Go wall to wall in herringbone or combine full sized tiles with a working area in herringbone, finished off with a matching border.
