From product knowledge, to install, and everything in between, the dedicated staff at Wideman Carpet One in Camrose, Alberta have you covered. We sat down with Corine Zetsen from Wideman to see what they do differently to make customers' home renovation experience an enjoyable one.
What made you go into retail?
We went into retail because we love helping customers design their dream space. It is satisfying working with customers from the beginning to end on projects, and seeing their custom style come to life in their homes.
What would you say most of your customers are looking for when they choose a floor?
I would say seventy-five percent of customers are looking for vinyl, as they have heard it is more durable and waterproof compared to its natural counterparts. Customers want to be different and unique – they want something they won’t find in their neighbours' homes. With Karndean, you can achieve that; a personalized floor in a product that lasts.
From a retailer’s perspective, what can a customer provide to help the decision process?
It is important to give honest answers so we can make sure we give the best possible recommendations. For example, if the customer is still looking for their forever home, we can recommend a floor that will last while they are still at their current location – and a floor they will want in their forever home once they have found it.
What’s the first or most important question you ask a customer?
“How are you going to use this space?” This gives us helpful information; are you designing a living area? A bedroom? From here, we can suggest the right product that will stand up to how this specific area will be used.
Why did you choose to partner with Karndean?
We partnered with Karndean soon after we opened in 2011. Our store manager had previous experience with Karndean and contacted the representative for our area - from there we never looked back. We feel we have a great relationship with everyone that we deal with from Karndean. From our sales representatives to the contacts we have at the office, everyone makes it easy for us to check stock, order material and answer any questions.
What is your favourite Karndean product?
As far as a favourite Karndean product goes – this is probably the most difficult question! There is no way to single one product out as we have installed several jobs with different product lines, and each one turned out beautifully and our customers have always been pleased with the results of a Karndean install.
How would you describe Karndean to someone who didn’t know about the company?
Karndean is a high quality flooring product that gives the customer the ability to design a space that is unique, and custom to their personal style.
What trends are you seeing emerge in flooring and/or what are your favourites?
Click flooring has become quite popular in the flooring market but people are still willing to sacrifice click floors for a custom design floor. Herringbone is also a very popular design trend that is making its way back into the consumer’s eyes. Customers are loving being able to add in design elements, like a herringbone floor, in their space to make the space feel more luxurious, all while giving them a custom look.
What’s been your favourite flooring installation/project to date?
Our favourite project would be the custom show home design we worked on with Promark Construction. We loved the creativity that went into designing this space, and being able to display how customers can get a custom look in their home.
