2019: Trends for the year ahead

Karndean Designflooring

As we jump into the New Year, the interior design industry is buzzing with predictions on upcoming design styles and trends.

Sourcing inspiration from leading home interiors worldwide, industry colour experts and online design communities, we have narrowed down four new trends to look for in 2019.

Matte black dark interiors

Trend forecasters at Home Beautiful Australia expect to see bold, high-contrast designs as matte black makes its way into homewares and interiors. Black creates a sense of drama and we anticipate this trend to carry on from the impact and popularity of grey. In your space, you can reference this trend with the use of matte black furnishings, wall paint or fittings. When it comes to flooring, we recommend our Opus Carbo planks or Nero tile to create the ultimate matte black spectacle in your space.

Go Green

The Dulux 2019 Colour forecast suggests we repair our connection with nature – embracing a more holistic way of living.  Soft furnishings with varying textures, upcycled pieces and plants are easy wins to give your interior a subtle nod towards this trend. Alternatively, you can fill your space with sage hues, forest tones or other earthy colours on bigger items in the home such as walls and furniture. Consider complementing these tones with a natural look floor such as our Neutral Oak, to complete your nature inspired space.

Art Deco Chic

In 2019, we return to one of the most opulent and glamourous periods in history; Art Deco. During the past year, Art Deco detailing in furniture and lighting, and the use of geometric and metallic colouring has been trending throughout the Pinterest design community. When it comes to this lavish style, choose a floor to match the richness of this era and consider the way it’s laid. Our Art Select parquet laid in the classic herringbone pattern or our marble tile in a chequerboard lay will certainly fit the style of this era.

Gold as far as the eye can see

Traditional and timeless, this luxuriously metallic finish is predicted to guild our interiors in 2019. We expect yellow gold to replace the popular rose gold tones that have dominated interiors this year. Pair these traditional gold tones with raw natural finishes, luxurious stones or soft neutral wood looks such as our Niveus to provide a subtle backdrop to your newly guided space.
