Ten years ago, Angela Fahl and her family, comprised of four children and one black lab, moved into a 1931 brick Tudor revival home. Minnesota experiences all four seasons and the Fahls live an active lifestyle, enjoying the backyard pool during the summer and constantly has wet snow boots coming and going in the winter.
As with many older homes, each room on the main floor of Angela’s tudor had a different type of flooring, from “ugly tile” to old carpet, which led them to a kitchen renovation and ultimately, Karndean Designflooring.
“We renovated our kitchen five years ago when we first had our Karndean floors installed. I heard about Karndean from our local home flooring and paint store (Marshall Decorating). Todd was very helpful and explained the benefits to luxury vinyl plank verses doing an engineered hardwood. Our home is constructed of concrete & brick (the inside as well), so real wood floors were not an option for us (even our baseboards are concrete). LVP has been perfect for our quirky home in that aspect,” Angela said.
Angela chose Hickory Nutmeg EW03 from the Art Select product range. Rich and rustic, this handcrafted design has the look and feel of aged and reclaimed hickory in a mid-brown tone with a sophisticated finish. “I appreciated how real and authentic it looked. It’s not shiny or fake looking.”
“We constantly have water on our floors. With a backyard pool and long Minnesota winters having real wood that would need to be wiped up throughout the day would not work for our busy family of six. LVP allows the look of wood without all of the maintenance.”
A year after the kitchen renovation, they added Hickory Nutmeg into their living room and earlier this year, they carried the same color into the bedrooms. Now their entire main level has Hickory Nutmeg flooring.
“I love the continuous flooring and I appreciate how seamlessly they flow in our historic home. We have dark stained doors and trim original to our 1931 home. I appreciate how the floors blend with the original wood and look as if they could have always been here. I’m so happy with the look and feel. It suits our home and our family.”
