Light Reflectance Values

Understanding Light Reflectance Values (LRVs) in specification, colour planning and commercial fit-outs is important in order to efficiently plan lighting and to provide the appropriate visual ergonomics.

LRV is defined as the amount of light reflected from a specific product, measured on a scale of 0-99. A result of 0 is a surface that perfectly absorbs all light (assumed to be totally black) and 99 which is perfectly reflective (and can be considered totally white).

All of Karndean Designfloorings’ products have been tested to BS8493:2008+A1:2010 and are available as a downloadable pdf. In the absence of an Australian or International Standards Organization (ISO) test method, leading industry bodies including the Carpet Industry Australia determined that British Standard BS 8493:2008 Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of a Surface – Method of Test is the most appropriate Standard.
