GreenStar GreenTag™ Certified
The majority of Karndean luxury vinyl ranges are fully certified to Ecospecifier Global GreenTag™ - the third party multi-criteria, consensus based and externally verified Type 1 eco-labeling program. This is one of the largest product sustainability certification systems in Australasia and the only certification mark approved by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
GreenTag™ comprises two certification systems in which the majority of Karndean Designflooring luxury Vinyl is certified under both.
LCARate™ Silver certification
LCARate™ is the life cycle analysis for all products and rating tools that engage analysis with separate outputs called an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This is a summary life cycle analysis report used for credits in some rating tools for GreenStar. Life cycle analysis is used to determine the environmental and Whole of Life (WoL) impact associated with a product; evaluating sustainability, recycled content and energy emissions.
Karndean Designflooring LVT ranges have achieved GreenTag™ LCARate Silver certification which offers eco-credit points towards GreenStar building projects. Download a copy of our GreenTag LCARate Silver certificate.
GreenRate™ Level A certification
GreenRate™ is a straight Type 1 eco-label developed to meet the requirements of specific green building rating tools. It includes the measurement of indoor environmental air quality: volatile organic compounds compliant (IEQ VOC) and reduced exposure to pollutants. GreenRate™ is offered in three levels of quality from Level ‘C’ up to Level ‘A’ relevant to GreenStar in Australia and New Zealand.
Karndean Designflooring LVT ranges are fully certified under GreenRate™ Level A certification which declares responsible manufacture and clean indoor quality.

Product Stewardship Program
Karndean Designflooring has achieved 100% compliance in the Vinyl Council Australia’s (VCA) Product Stewardship Program. The full compliance strengthens our ongoing commitment to the improvement in the health, safety and environmental impacts of our luxury vinyl flooring.
Progress under the program is achieved through phthalate free PVC product, reduced emissions, improvements in waste management, end-of-life product stewardship and adoption of life-cycle thinking in the development of existing and new PVC products.
Karndean Designflooring offers a Product Stewardship Program specifically for Karndean’s own branded Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Planks (LVT) when requested. For more information, contact Karndean Designflooring Customer Service Department.
Best Practice PVC
The Best Practice PVC Guidelines are written and determined by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and are used as an independent verification and accreditation of PVC product compliance. Produced in collaboration with the Vinyl Council of Australia (VCA), the guidelines address the minimsation of environmental and health impacts of the PVC lifecycle including but not limited to mercury avoidance, emission reduction and end-of-life management.
This Best Practice PVC recognition for Karndean’s gluedown LVT and LooseLay will facilitate architects, interior designers and builders in earning eco-points for Green Star projects under #20 Responsible Building Materials credit.

We have a responsibility as leading suppliers of LVT to ensure our flooring and flooring adhesives products meet the strict indoor air quality emissions criteria of FloorScore®.
FloorScore® certified products are recognized by a long list of healthy building programs including Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED), California Department of Public Health’s CAL 1350 standard and SCS-EC10.3-2014 Indoor Air Quality Product Performance Standard for Building Interiors.
Environmentally Responsible Manufacturing
All Karndean Designflooring is manufactured in factories certified to ISO 14001 Environmental Management and ISO 9001 Quality Management international standards. Our approach is based on the use of recycled materials in our floor coverings and ensuring that the finished product is suitable for recycling if required.
Each of our planks and tiles contribute to improved indoor air quality, carrying a low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) FloorScore® certification, meeting LEED Credit 4.3.
