Blended herringbone pattern with Karndean LooseLay products

Tips from the Table: Karndean LooseLay Design Capabilities

Posted on the 19/7/2017 by Karndean Designflooring

Our loose lay format is one of our quickest and easiest to install flooring options and is available in various sizes across wood and stone looks. Karndean LooseLay features planks sized at 41.3” x 9.85” and tiles sized at 19.7” x 24”, while LooseLay Longboard’s wood planks measure 59.1” x 9.85”.

Unlike most floating floors on the market, Karndean LooseLay is multi-directional, so you can achieve an unique layout and adhere to your project deadline and budget. You can lay Karndean LooseLay to run the length or width of the space, lay it on a 45° angle or explore even more detailed designs.

We’ve mentioned the possibility of using multiple products in previous blogs and LooseLay is no exception! Use two contrasting colors to create a striped floor or use two similar colors to create a more blended look. Considering the directional shift to open commercial spaces, laying LooseLay Longboard at an angle can make a space appear even larger.

For clients who like a classic look floor, a herringbone pattern adds visual interest while still offering you some design flexibility. With the use of just one color, this classic pattern can be kept simple, but if you’d like to elevate the design to create an eye-catching statement floor, use multiple colors or play with the number of rows you use in each shade.

For a different take on a traditional herringbone, consider a broken chevron pattern which includes vertical planks between the planks in the herringbone. While this pattern may appear complex, it’s actually easier to install than a standard chevron pattern.

For a third option, instead of breaking up colors in a herringbone pattern by row, break them up by column instead, creating a dimensional effect.

What’s fantastic about Karndean LooseLay is that it can be scored and snapped just like any of our gluedown products so you can create your own custom designs! In open environments, use different colors or looks to zone functional areas of a space or to create a walkway.

Karndean LooseLay is not only versatile in terms of design, but also offers benefits that allow it to be installed in locations where a gluedown floor may not be ideal. With an IIC rating of 56, Karndean LooseLay is well suited for quiet office or healthcare environments, passes the ASTM static load test and may be installed over concrete subfloors with an RH up to 95%.
