LVT stands for Luxury Vinyl Tile - a product that looks like real wood and stone flooring, but provides many more practical benefits. Available in a range of shapes, sizes and effects, you can create an authentic looking floor in your home, without the practical drawbacks of natural products.
“Homeowners have the flexibility to create their own floor design with individual LVT planks and tiles, as opposed to sheet vinyl,” explains Stella Coyle, national retail sales manager. “For example, you can choose a chevron design using planks, a monochrome style with contrasting tiles, and parquet in popular herringbone and Shaker.”
How LVT is made
LVT is made with a series of layers; the stability layer helps the product to lay flat and level, whilst still being flexible enough to cut through with a knife. The HD photographic layer gives every Karndean product its highly realistic design whilst the PVC wear layer protects the floor’s design from everyday wear and tear, and our enhanced K-Guard+ PU surface treatment provides added protection and reduced maintenance.
Types of LVT
Here at Karndean, we offer three different types of LVT. In our gluedown range, you’ll find our widest range of designs, colors and styles, which can be personalized using different laying styles and color combinations, as well as various design components (design strips, borders and specially cut features).
Our Karndean LooseLay range showcases our innovative K-Wave friction grip backing which secures the product to the subfloor. The backing also aids in reducing noise transfer to rooms below. It’s quick and easy to install and can be used in rooms with high humidity or water exposure, such as kitchens and bathrooms. “A loose-lay vinyl offers faster installation times and less downtime for busy lifestyles or homes,” explains Stella. “It also offers the flexibility to change your floor on a more frequent basis, in line with the latest trends.”
What makes LVT so popular?
LVT is far more durable than real wood, stone or ceramic tile, withstanding the general wear and tear of daily life. Karndean is waterproof too – unaffected by leaking appliances, spilt drinks or messy bath times, making it even more resilient to busy family life. Better still, it’s easy to maintain – simply give it a quick sweep and mop using Karndean Clean solution and you’re good to go!
LVT is already warmer underfoot than real wood or stone, but if you’re looking for extra warmth, LVT is suitable for use with underfloor heating systems. Team its practical benefits with the realistic effects and endless design capabilities and it’s easy to see why LVT is so popular in today’s flooring market.
